Capital Ask Letter

Greetings from Good Samaritan Episcopal Church,

On April 19, we shared a presentation about several important capital projects we hope to undertake later this year at Good Samaritan. If you missed it, a short video, “Capital Projects at Good Sam,” is available on our YouTube Channel.

At their heart, these projects are about caring for the place that supports our ministry. Our campus is more than buildings and pavement; it is a place of worship, hospitality, healing, learning, fellowship, and welcome. It is where people encounter the love of God, often for the very first time.

As stewards of this community and this sacred space, we are called to care well for what has been entrusted to us. The projects we are focusing on are primarily deferred maintenance — repairs and improvements that have been postponed over time, but which are increasingly necessary for safety, accessibility, stewardship, and hospitality. The primary projects include:

● Parking lot repairs and resurfacing, including improved parking alignment and safer walking surfaces

● Adding accessible ramp access at the Worship Center drop-off area

● Replacement of the flooring in Roetter Hall

● Repair and refinishing of deteriorating exterior beams on the Worship Center

These projects are not glamorous, but they are important. They help ensure that Good Samaritan remains safe, accessible, welcoming, and prepared to support ministry for years to come.

Our goal is to raise $250,000, which includes both the identified project costs and a contingency fund for unexpected expenses that often arise during major repair work. The Vestry has been discussing these needs for many months, and we believe this is the right time to address them before costs and safety concerns increase further.

This request is separate from our annual pledge campaign and regular operating budget. Your ongoing generosity continues to sustain the ministries and daily life of the parish, and we are deeply grateful for that support. This special appeal is intended specifically to help us address these pressing facility needs. We are asking parishioners to prayerfully consider making a financial commitment by May 31. As funds are received, projects will be initiated according to priority, beginning with the most urgent needs. Just as importantly, we welcome your questions, ideas, and feedback. We want these projects to reflect the values and needs of our whole community. Later this year, we also hope to begin a broader strategic planning process in which the entire parish will be invited to participate, as we discern together the future hopes and priorities for Good Samaritan.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration, your faithful stewardship, and your love for this community. We care for this place because it supports the work God is doing among us. My hope is that Good Samaritan will continue to be a place where all people know they are welcomed, valued, and deeply loved by God. We have 100% participation from the vestry and we hope that you will join us.

Please use the included pledge card to help us know your planned giving towards these projects. Your participation will help us steward our campus and plan effectively. The official in-gathering will be on Sunday, May 31, 2026. We’ll gladly receive your commitment at that time or when you’re able, either with this card, online, or by contacting me directly.

Faithfully,

The Rev. Paul Klitzke
