Bible Study and Community Involvement This Fall

As we continue to enjoy the sunshine and warmth of summer, we are also looking ahead to an exciting fall at Good Samaritan.

I want to share a few opportunities that are taking shape and invite you to consider how you might participate.

This fall we are planning several parish forums on a variety of topics. These will include an introduction to the Episcopal Church, opportunities to learn more about some of our ministries, and conversations about the possibility of a parish pilgrimage in the future. We are still finalizing the details, but we anticipate beginning these after Labor Day. Watch for more information in the coming weeks.

We are also planning to begin Confirmation classes. Confirmation is often the time when young people publicly affirm the promises made at their baptism, but it is by no means only for youth. Many adults choose to be confirmed as they deepen their faith or make a commitment to the Episcopal Church. These classes will also be open to those seeking Reception (for those confirmed in another Christian tradition) and Reaffirmation of Faith. Even if you have been confirmed before, you may find the classes to be a meaningful opportunity to deepen your understanding of our faith and the Episcopal tradition.

Finally, I hope to begin a weekly Bible study this fall. In the past, I have led a lectionary-based study in which we read and discuss the Scripture lessons for the coming Sunday. These conversations enrich my own sermon preparation, and many participants have shared that they deepen both their understanding of Scripture and their experience of Sunday worship.

My hope is to offer this study on Zoom on Mondays at noon or 1:00 p.m. If that time would prevent you from participating, please let me know. If there is enough interest, I am happy to explore another time.

If you are especially interested in the Confirmation classes or the Bible study, I would appreciate hearing from you. Email is the easiest way for me to keep a list of interested participants and share updates as plans come together.

We will also continue to share information in our newsletter and during Sunday announcements as these opportunities take shape.

I look forward to this next season of learning, growing, and serving together.

Blessings,

Father Paul
