As we continue exploring stewardship as all that we do, with all that we have, all of the time, I wanted to share an update on some of the ways the vestry, staff, and I are working to steward the resources and campus entrusted to Good Samaritan.

First, I am grateful to share that we have now received 64 pledges totaling $246,085 toward our capital projects. Of that amount, $214,078 has already been received.

Thank you for your generosity and commitment to our shared ministry. We are currently reviewing and updating bids for the various projects and hope to begin construction in the near future.

Over the past year, we have also spent considerable time reviewing how we steward our campus through the various organizations that use our facilities. Many of our lease agreements and rental rates had not been updated for several years. While there were a number of factors that contributed to this, our focus has been on building a sustainable future with agreements that are fair, equitable, and beneficial both for our ministry and for those who share our space.

One particular area of focus has been our lease with the Newman Center, as they are the largest user of our campus. While finalizing a new long-term agreement has taken longer than anticipated, we were able to increase the monthly rent in the interim so that it more accurately reflects current market conditions. We continue to work toward completing a new agreement and establishing a process that keeps it current in the years ahead.

As we reviewed the lease with Captivate, they ultimately decided not to renew. They expressed sincere gratitude for the hospitality and partnership they experienced during their time at Good Samaritan. Their decision reflects the direction of their own ministry and the coordination of their various campuses throughout San Diego. While we will miss having another ministry partner on campus, we also recognize that hosting three worshiping communities each Sunday has presented logistical challenges.

We are now working to help Captivate conclude their time here well while preparing the space for its next chapter. We have partnered with a real estate firm that specializes in serving churches, schools, and other nonprofit organizations to help identify future tenants. At a minimum, we anticipate leasing the former AT&T office building at the end of the parking lot, and we are also exploring other opportunities that align with our mission and make faithful use of our campus. At the same time, the vestry and staff are proactively planning for the impact these changes may have on our budget in 2026 and beyond.

We will continue to provide updates as these efforts move forward. My hope is that this overview offers reassurance that your leadership is thoughtfully and prayerfully caring for the resources God has entrusted to Good Samaritan.
