Pastoral Care

One of the many gifts of serving at Good Samaritan is our close proximity to the university campus and the long history of connection our parish has shared with students over the years. During the interview process, I heard a strong desire to renew and deepen that relationship, and over this past year it has been a joy to begin participating more fully in that ministry.
I have regularly joined Greg Tuttle and The Rev. Darin Johnson in our Agape campus ministry. This longstanding ministry of presence is simple in many ways, yet deeply meaningful. Students gather to rest, share conversation, ask questions, and simply be together. Returning students reconnect and share what is happening in their lives, while those new to the space often arrive with curiosity and openness. All are welcomed just as they are.
One of the joys of campus ministry is the wide range of conversations that emerge. Some evenings students share personal stories or seek support and encouragement. Other times discussions turn toward faith, scripture, doubt, vocation, or the challenge of navigating life as a young adult in today’s world. Often, our role is not to provide easy answers, but simply to listen well, be present, and reflect the love of Christ.
Recently, several students shared that they had been searching for a church home, though not always finding spaces where they felt fully welcomed. It reminded me again how important the witness of churches like Good Samaritan can be. While many communities speak about welcome, we have the opportunity to embody it — to make clear through our words and actions that people are valued, included, and loved by God exactly as they are.
Our presence on campus is not only a ministry to students; it is also a gift to our parish. It challenges and encourages us to continue becoming a community that shares God’s love openly, practices hospitality generously, and makes room for authentic conversation and belonging.
Thank you for the many ways you support and sustain this ministry through your prayers, encouragement, and witness.
Blessings,
Paul
