Season of Lent

Lent is coming up fast! This year, Ash Wednesday falls on February 18, marking the beginning of the season of Lent. Please plan to join us at 6:00 pm that evening for a service that invites us into the observance of a holy Lent. Our worship throughout the season will continue to reflect and deepen the themes of repentance, prayer, and renewal.

Each Wednesday during Lent, we will gather for a simple meal, formation, and prayer. A sign-up will be available for those who would like to help provide soup and bread for these gatherings.

The teaching portion of these evenings is titled Rooted in What’s Written: An Exploration of the Bible, the Book of Common Prayer, and Other Prayer Resources. Together, we will explore:

  • An overview of the Book of Common Prayer
  • A comparison of our current Book of Common Prayer with those of the past and with prayer books from other Anglican traditions
  • Additional prayer resources, including books and online tools
  • An overview of the Bible, including explanations of differences among translations
  • Practical ways to use prayer and Bible resources to deepen and sustain our faith

Perhaps committing to these Wednesday gatherings could become part of your Lenten discipline this year. I’ll share more about personal spiritual practices for the season of Lent in next week’s e-news.

Blessings,
Paul
