Resources for a Life of Prayer

“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” - Meister Eckhart

Last Sunday the Gospel lesson included Jesus teaching his disciples to pray. My sermon explored the use of the “Lord’s Prayer” as well as the other teaching Jesus offered on prayer more generally. I imagine it will be one of many sermons you have heard and will continue to hear about prayer. While sermons on the topic may be helpful, prayer ought to be addressed in other ways too.

There are many fantastic books, blogs, and videos on prayer. Sometimes it is hard to know where to start. During Sunday’s announcements, I mentioned “The Bible Project” which is a fantastic resource on scripture. If you’re curious to know more about Hosea, the short overview I suggested can be viewed here.

And there are a vast number of other resources to explore. A recent blog on prayer by Kayla Craig that I found powerful can be found here. My favorite part reads, “Prayer isn’t a little sprinkling of magical Christian pixie dust that gets us our wishes granted. Prayer isn’t a divine vending machine. Prayer isn’t convincing God to do what we want if we just ask the right way.”

We are in the process of updating our website to include links to more resources that can help our members continue to connect with meaningful formation. I am also working on some videos to offer teaching beyond what is provided in worship. We hope that these new opportunities will help all at Good Sam to grow in their faith.

Blessings,
Paul
