Sharing Our Gifts, Building Our Future

The talent and dedication of the members of the church consistently impress me. While I’m grateful for the staff and their contributions, the church cannot exist without members who are willing to serve in a variety of ways. I was reminded of this as I met with the vestry last weekend, discussing various topics and planning for our future. One discussion centered on recruiting additional leaders and volunteers.

As you read the opportunities listed below, we hope that you will prayerfully discern new ways in which you might contribute to the well-being of our community. Please let us know if you are interested in one or more of these. It will also be helpful if you discuss these options with others and share names or ideas with the vestry and me in the weeks ahead.

First, we need to elect three delegates and at least one alternate to represent Good Samaritan in the annual Diocesan Convention. It will take place on November 7-8, 2025, at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in San Diego. Delegates will likely have information to review in advance as we prepare to elect new Diocesan leaders, vote on the budget, and consider any resolutions proposed.

Those willing to stand for election will complete a short form that will help our members make an informed decision. We will need to receive the forms by July 15 and will share them in advance of a special Parish Meeting on July 27 following worship. The election will be our only stated business, so the meeting should be very short. Additional information will be shared via email and announcements in the coming week.

Another substantive need is a chairperson for children and youth. The role of a committee chair is to help coordinate existing ministries and programs and to identify areas of growth or need. We are fortunate to have an increasing number of children and youth at Good Sam, and it is essential to find ways to serve their needs. Experience in education or as a teacher is a plus but not required.

We also have opportunities to serve on Sunday in worship and more. Livestreaming helps both our current members and others seeking a church. Our livestream team would appreciate having a few more people and will offer training to those interested. Members of our Altar Guild, who prepare the altar, candles and communion, also hope to find additional members in the coming weeks.

Many hands do make light work, and we bring different talents and experiences to our church community. It is my hope that we may each discover ways to share our God-given gifts and find meaning in these acts of service. I look forward to discussing these options — or any other areas in which you wish to serve — with you.

Blessings,
Fr. Paul
